Ulcerative Colitis and Graves Disease: Is There Any Relationship?

Abstract

The association between Graves disease and inflammatory bowel disease is well known in the medical literature. However, it is uncertain whether this link is due to a specific cause or just a simple coincidence. In most cases, the diagnosis of thyroid disease has preceded that of ulcerative colitis (UC). In this paper, we studied the case of a female patient developing Graves disease years after being diagnosed with UC, and we reviewed the literature exploring a possible autoimmune relationship.
